Cast of ‘Casper: Where are They Now? Christina Ricci, Devon Sawa, and More

Can they be kept? Casper was a hit from the moment it debuted in 1995. It is still a Halloween classic over twenty years later.

Casper was based on the Harvey Comics character with the same name. He starred Bill Pullman in the role of James Harvey, a spirit expert who moves to Maine with his daughter Kat ( Christina Ricci ) after his wife’s death.

The father-daughter couple settles into their new lives and realize that they are sharing their space with four ghosts. They include Casper (voiced and played by Devon Sawa), Stinkie, Fatso and Stretch (Joe Nipote), and Stinkie (Joe Alaskey). Casper falls in love quickly with Kat. However, their budding relationship is complicated by his troublemaking relatives who will do anything to keep the house theirs.

Casper was a cult film that made Ricci a star, but the actress looks back with disdain at her performance in the supernatural dramedy.

“If you watch Casper,” the Sleepy Hollow star stated during an appearance on ” WTF with Marc Maron” in August 2022. People get so upset when you say that. It’s a great movie. It is a childhood favorite. But I am terrible in it. ‘”

It’s still a Halloween tradition for Ricci’s viewers , especially children of the ’90s. However, the Pan Am alum said that she had “a lot going in her life” that prevented her from producing her best work.

“Everything was extremely difficult. To tell the truth, I was always frustrated and didn’t try very hard. Embarrassingly I don’t think that I tried as hard maybe I should have,” she stated, noting that she was unable to express her feelings after showing the movie her son Freddie, whom she shares with ex James Heerdegen. “I can remember thinking, ‘Wow. Okay. That wasn’t a convincing line reading at all. “Just no commitment.

Sawa, her costar, sees the experience differently.

“Christina Ricci has a huge talent and played a major part in me getting this role. She then recommended me for Now and Then. She is my hero. #casper” was the Idle Hands Star who wrote via Twitter about the Addams Family Values actress in May 2020. He also said that his brief appearance in the film was nothing to Malachi Pearson, who voiced Malachi’s ghost before he brought him back to life at the end.

“I was in Casper for thirty seconds. Malachi Pearson did all the hard work. Sawa said that Casper was too young to be brought to life when they made the last-minute decision to bring him to life. “So, I was offered the job. It was a great opportunity [HT0_ director Brad Silberling] to choose me. I would be lying if it didn’t lead to a 30-year job I love.

Sawa’s tweet was replied to by the director, who wrote, “Let’s be real, my friend.” It was the colour in Christina’s cheeks that sealed the deal when I flew to meet you at lunch. After that, I had to say yes. @DevonESawa.”

For his part, the Chucky actor has been open about his connection with Ricci over time — and his willingness for an onscreen smooch or two with the Ice Storm star , who he also starred with in Now, and Then.

Sawa said that he didn’t feel nervous about kissing Christina in Casper. Christina was a beautiful girl, and he was a young boy. News for October 2021. I don’t know what it was, but the day was easy and everyone was so respectful. It was very exciting. It was a great day. It was a lot of fun.”

Executive produced by Stephen Spielberg, the film made extensive use CGI imagery to create the ghosts and was the first feature with a fully CGI lead character. This proved more difficult than expected.

“Three weeks into filming, Steven [Spielberg] stated that if you knew what you were getting yourself into, you would never have said yes!” In 2020, Silberling tweeted. It was the decision to forgo college and graduate school to pursue a Ph.D. Jurassic Park:64 Cg shots. Casper:280 – With dialogue and performance!
