Connor McDavid scored three goals and assisted, and Wednesday night’s win saw the Edmonton Oilers overcome a 3-0 deficit and beat the Vancouver Canucks by 5-3.

EDMONTON (Alberta) — Connor McDavid scored three goals and had an assist to help the Edmonton Oilers overcome a 3-0 early deficit and beat the Vancouver Canucks by 5-3 on Wednesday night.

Leon Draisaitl scored a goal, and Darnell Nurse assisted with two goals for the Oilers. Jack Campbell saved 33 times.

Jay Woodcroft, Edmonton head coach, stated that it wasn’t in accordance with anyone’s script. “I don’t believe we were sharp. I don’t believe we were in sync at the beginning. Although we were able to win the game, it’s a good sign. But, we still have room for improvement.”

Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller and Andrei Kuzmenko scored for the Canucks in Miller’s NHL debut. Thatcher Demko stopped 20 shot attempts.

Miller and Pettersson scored within a 51 second span. Kuzmenko made it 3-1 39 seconds into the second period on a power-play. He is the Canucks’ first power-play goal scorer in their debut.

Oliver Ekman–Larsson, Canucks defenseman, said that “that was quite disappointing. I thought we came out fairly well in the first and special team kind of cost us this game.” “The power play was not good enough, and we couldn’t keep the puck out our net on (penalty kill).

Edmonton scored at 4:12 in the second period when Draisaitl made a deflected pass towards the net and passed it to Demko on power play.

With 5:59 remaining in the second, the Oilers managed to score another goal on a power-play goal. It was scored by Zach Hyman passing to Draisaitl then McDavid.

“It wasn’t a good start for our team. McDavid stated that it was only the first game, and there were some jitters. It is not going to work every night. It is not possible to win every game, and you may get a win with your B’ or ‘C’ game. We found a way to get back into it, even though it wasn’t our ‘A” game.

Edmonton came within 41 seconds of the end on a 2-on-1 short-handed, short-handed break. Draisaitl passed it to Nurse who beat Demko with an one-timer.

With 4:59 remaining in the third period, the Oilers led. McDavid orchestrated a give and go with Hyman before putting his rebound past Demko. McDavid scored his 700th career point. He is now the sixth fastest player to reach the mark in 488 matches.

McDavid finished the hat trick in 25 seconds. Evander Kane then dropped it back to McDavid for an empty net power-play goal.
