Elton John calls Jerry Lee Lewis a “groundbreaking” musician.

The controversial singer passed away from natural causes at 87 in the home he shared with his family located in DeSoto County, Mississippi, and Elton has been on his social networks to show heartfelt thanks to the “Great Balls Of Fire’ singer.

In a comment on Instagram, Elton said, “Without Jerry Lee Lewis, I would not be who I am today. He was groundbreaking, exciting, and he pulverized the piano.”. A brilliant singer too. All the memories of rock ‘n’ roll are thanks to you and your trailblazing inspiration. @jerryleelewisthekiller #RIP (sic)”

Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones has also pay tribute to the pioneer of rock and roll.

A Twitter user wrote: “R.I.P. JLL the KILLER – What a man.

Sir Ringo Starr took to microblogging platforms to pay his tribute to himself.
