Katmandu: A brand new theme park opens in the Dominican Republic

A brand new theme park is set to be added into the Caribbean.

Katmandu Park is scheduled to open in the early part of 2023, in Punta Cana, located on the east coast of Dominican republic entertainment business Falcon’s Beyond announced this week.

The theme park is expected to include rides and other attractions that immerse guests in the fantastical world from The Katmandu franchise, which includes four marquee attractions Falcon’s Beyond said in a statement.

The first Katmandu Park was inaugurated on Mallorca, Spain, in 2012.

“Katmandu Park | Punta Cana will deliver an unprecedented theme park experience based on the popular characters of our very own Katmandu fantastical universe,” Cecil D. Magpuri who is the Director of Falcon’s Beyond, Falcon’s Beyond, said in an announcement. “Through innovative rides and attractions that deliver unmatched and immersive storytelling, guests will truly lose themselves in the Hidden Realms of Katmandu. Combined with other day and night entertainment, dining and shopping, Katmandu Park will offer an extraordinary experience for families and theme park lovers in the premier resort location of Punta Cana.”

The park is designed to provide and alternative to conventional “mega park” experience with the idea of providing “world-class experiences in a smaller landscape,” according Falcon’s Beyond.

The event will include four main attractions, which form an overall narrative:

  • Voyage of the Fathom Wanderer is a suspended theatre attraction that takes guests on an underwater journey with a thrilling ride that can lift guests through the air.
  • The Challenge to the mad Mage in a thrilling 4-D theatre experience in which guests are confronted with a blaster battle.
  • Legend of the Desirata is an attraction in 4D that tells the Katmandu history through multiple projection screens with immersive audio as well as scenic elements, along with lighting and sound effects.
  • EtherQuest is a attraction that walks through the park and offers an interactive gaming experience.

Katmandu Park will also include an indoor mini golf course as well as one ropes course that is outdoor as well as climber’s indoor courses.

Punta Cana is a popular tourist destination and a major resort zone within the Caribbean. Between the months of January to September over 5.3 million tourists have been to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic this year according to the ministry of tourism in the country.

Following Punta Cana, Falcon’s Beyond anticipates opening Katmandu Parks around the world including locations located in Tenerife as well as Canary Islands, Spain; and Playa del Carmen and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
