Robbie Coltrane, ‘Harry Potter actor, died at the age of 72

Robbie Coltrane, famous for his part on his role in the “Harry Potter” film franchise has passed away.

The actor’s agent WME has confirmed with Fox News Digital that he passed away at 72.

The agent of Coltrane Belinda Wright said he passed away on Friday in the hospital located in Scotland. The agent did not provide the reason for his death.


Coltrane was born in Glasgow and first appeared on stage when he was 12 years old. He was a student at the Glasgow Art School and eventually was a part of the TV show “Flash Gordon,” along with “Keep It in the Family” and “Blackadder.”

He was able to continue making an impression through his the roles he played on “Alfresco” and “The Comic Strip.”

Coltrane was offered a part in the British television series “Cracker” in the 1990s. His performance was rewarded with the award of three BAFTA awards.

Coltrane also had a lucrative film career. Coltrane played the character of Hagrid as a half-giant in the entire the eight “Harry Potter” movies. He also landed roles in the James Bond films “GoldenEye” and “The World is Not Enough.”

Wright stated that she felt “proud” to be Coltrane’s agent.

“As well as being a wonderful actor, he was forensically intelligent, brilliantly witty and, after 40 years of being proud to be called his agent, I shall miss him,” Wright stated.

Coltrane was survived by his sibling Annie Rae, his children Spencer and Alice and their mother Rhona Gemmell.
